Responsibilities
The Art Vault is located on Deakin Avenue, the main thoroughfare through the city of Mildura, and in the same block as The Grand Hotel and the city’s main restaurant district. The Art Vault borders on the city’s central shopping plaza and is one block from the Murray River. There is a bus stop outside the building for both local commuters and visitors. The Art Vault is a new commercial gallery and art space comprised of a large Main Gallery and a Small Gallery. The Main Gallery showcases a broad range of artists, styles, and mediums at a range of prices while the Small Gallery is devoted to individual and group exhibitions. Both galleries have a quality, flexible art illumination system as well as a professional art hanging system. There are some floor electrical and digital systems for 3D computerised installations. Both galleries have polished timber floors and are environmentally controlled spaces. The usual length of time for an exhibition is from 2-3 weeks. Exhibitions will be set up on the Sunday/Monday with an official opening Wednesday night. The exhibition will be dismantled on a Sunday. No sold work is to be removed prior to the end of the exhibition. The Art Vault encourages applications of original works of art by both emerging and established visual artists. Works of all media are welcomed including painting, printmaking, drawing, photography, sculpture, mixed media and installations. The size and space of the venue will be the limiting factor. Applications are considered first and foremost on the quality of the work submitted. Applications will be considered for the Small Gallery only unless a special case for the use of the Main Gallery can be made. The selection panel will consist of the Director of the Art Vault as well as representatives from the Visual Arts Faculty of La Trobe University, The Mildura Arts Centre and the community. The cost of hiring the Small Gallery is generally $520 per exhibition unless part of an agreed package for a Gallery Artist, Artist in Residence or established artist. If the work is for exhibition only, and not for sale, then additional costs for hiring the gallery would apply. The Main Gallery will generally not be available for exhibition applications. The hiring of the Main Gallery may be prohibitive for most artists. However, The Art Vault would consider accepting a work(s) of art from an established artist in lieu of the rental charge. Alternatively an artist could seek funding to cover the cost of the gallery rental. Interested artists should contact The Art Vault Director.
