Bio
Wendy Owen was born in Mannum, South Australia and is
one of five children born in her family which belong to the Nurrunga
People. Nurrunga is one of three main indigenous, tribal groupings in
South Australia.
Wendy began creating art when she was small and her skill was nurtured
by her grandmother. This encouraged Wendy to push herself creatively and
in doing so has had many interesting careers allowing her to harness her
artistic skill.
During the 90’s Wendy had some success with various government agencies
nominating her artworks be used in various publicity such as the Office
for Disability and Client Services (ODACS). She has since been
approached to create stationary and business logos with traditional
marks from her native place. Wendy designs had been approved by her
elders to use for this purpose.
Wendy had sold work extensively privately and has work held in some
public collections.

The kangaroo is basking in the sun holding onto a tree branch. The Sun
is behind him with its warm rays reflecting through the leaves.
The colours Wendy has used are those found in our local landscape. The
greens and blues reflect the colours of the different leaves while the
grey reflects the trunks and branches of the gums. Rather than use
a realistic style of painting the actual leaves Wendy has used various
dot sizes and circles to represent the different sizes and shapes of the
leaves.
