Artist Statement

My art is largely an exploration of my place in the landscape. My approach to making art is intuitive and I enjoy the process and the discovery of new ways to express my relationship with the inner environment or the landscape.
I am interested in the impact we have had on the land and this is often a theme of my work.  I keeping with this I constantly seek to recycle and re-using materials to create new works.
Currently I prefer to work with paper, gouache, inks & collage as well as making art from found objects such as rusty wire & tin. I collect materials that others have discarded as rubbish and use this to make assemblages or as a starting point for new work.  My work at times involves ecological rehabilitation and revegetation.
It is hard for me to pin-point artists who influence my work – as I am inspired by art works that I see from day to day. This may be an oil painting in a gallery or a hand-sewn garment. I am interested in the idea of people making art and what drives people to create.  I am intrigued by art which is done by those who are untrained and unconstrained by the rules & norms of the art world, who simply  make art as a response to their ‘inner landscape’.
