I grew up on the edge of the outback in Robinvale, Victoria. It was here that my love of creating jewellery was born, when I would delight in restringing my mother’s broken necklaces. I moved to Sydney but my heart was always drawn to the bush. In the eighties I went to live in the opal mining town of Coober Pedy where I designed and sold jewellery of the local Sturt Desert Pea made of Fimo. Back in Sydney I took a part time course of Lampworking glass beads and my passion for jewellery making has grown ever since. I am basically self taught and love to experiment with new ideas and material. At the moment rusted wire and quandong nuts are being worked into my pieces as well as handmade lampworked glass beads. Picture Jasper is another favourite as it beautifully reflects the rugged colours of the surrounding landscape of the dry creeks beds, scrubby saltbush, claypans and the remote hills. back to top I have always had a passion for the desert. The raw and rich colours of the desert often serve as an inspiration and I love to use semi precious gems, rusted wire, black lava, picture jasper, coral and kangaroo hide in my individual pieces as they beautifully reflect the rugged colours and texture of the surrounding landscape. I especially love working with the local quondong nut with its scraggly surface. back to top The 2008 Women’s
