Artist Statement

The Mallee in regional Victoria has found me in a location I have stayed for an unexpected amount of time and called home. A place where individuals and the direct community claim and possess land I have slight sense of individual association or connection to of the natural physicality as a place of belonging.

As an urban individual in transit, on a journey of reconfiguration in relation to my physical environment, I find myself in a continual process of self assessment of surrounds and location. This is an attempt to calm an uneasy sense of dislocation, particularly in a state of unfamiliar stillness.

To try and account for a continuously changing perception and ongoing report in my artistic process in reviewing my location and time would require a documentation of a still moment in time and to document my complete perception of environment from an inbuilt perspective.

To build a comprehensive reflection of the lived experience of now, we have to consider that observations of location and perception are always framed by past experiences and learnt beliefs and address with honesty, what might be missing.

A personal report of place would need a retrospective account of personal history and location up until that particular point to have a chance of giving an onlooker an objective account of your location and time.
