Educaton/Teaching has been my career but painting and drawing have always been my hobbies. Since retiring, I have been able to paint quite a lot, and have completed several seascapes for our holiday house at Marengo, near Apollo Bay and Mallee Landscapes for pleasure. I taught Art and Craft in London for two years in the 1970s where I met and married my wife Judy Gordon. After leaving England, we went to Greece where I taught English for a year at the Svarna Language School. We both have a passion for Ancient Greek and Roman Architecture and Sculpture. Jude and I moved to
Ouyen in 1980 and I worked my way up to eventually retire last year as
Principal of the Ouyen Secondary College. I
use acrylics on canvas, or canvas board, to depict aspects of the
Australian landscape from broad, sweeping vistas to close-ups where I try
to capture the texture and colour of the land. In both approaches I begin
with outdoor sketching and preliminary painting, with finishing work done
indoors. I use photographs as a reference for fine line and composition. I
paint traditionally using thin brush work and with clear definition of
objects throughout. At the moment I am mainly painting seascapes in and
around the family property at Marengo near Apollo Bay. In the broader art
world, I am attracted to the French Realist School and in particular the
work of Camille Corot. I like the work of Australian artists Ray Arnold,
Godwin Bradbeer and John Robinson. 1997 - Graduate Diploma of Educational Administration, University of Melbourne 1994 - Bachelor of Arts, Deakin University 1972 - Higher Diploma of Teaching Secondary Art and Craft, Melbourne Teachers College |
