Jason Benjamin (1971- ), Australian painter. Won the 2005 peoples choice award at the Archibald Prize with a painting of actor Bill Hunter. He won the 1993, 1994 and 1996 Mosman Art Prizes in Sydney. (Taken from Wikipedia).
'Benjamin does not limit himself to a particular genre, undertaking still lifes, revealing portraits and vast landscapes. His paintings feel easily recognisable, partly due to their size - they are more than a metre wide and up to two metres high - but also to their photographic quality. They are often close-ups and "a bid to capture the moment", prompted by the human instinct to try to keep hold of "a collection of moments, scenes, memories that can't be held".'
