Bio
Born: Sydney, 1957
Dianne
Longley is a South Australian artist who works across a range of media
including printmaking; encaustic, oil and pokerwork on wooden panels;
artist books; on-glaze porcelain; and small scale bronze casting.
Dianne runs an access printmaking studio (The Print Studio) and teaches
at Adelaide College of the Arts. In 1998 she published ‘Printmaking with
Photopolymer Plates’, a book about a new, safe versatile printmaking
technique. Dianne has taught workshops and classes in photopolymer
printmaking in Australia, USA, Japan, and the UK.
In her current work Dianne incorporates a cast of creatures, which have
become part of her visual language, to create various scenarios. The
upside-down nature of some images reflects the topsy-turvy nature of
life. Her characters live in a world where nothing is certain. Many of
the creatures wear masks as a reminder that there can be a darker side
to ‘beautiful’ and a tenderness not generally recognised in the
‘beastly’.
